Elston House

    Subiaco

This renovation honours the home’s c1900 character while introducing a contemporary extension designed for modern family life. The original structure is carefully restored, its craftsmanship and proportions forming a calm, intimate setting for bedrooms and work areas. The new addition reinterprets the heritage form with a confident, modern expression that remains visually connected.

A nuanced material palette creates cohesion between old and new: the soft rendered façade of the original house contrasts with mottled brickwork, while the extension’s vertical cladding quietly echoes tones found in the heritage timber trims. Courtyard gardens provide breathing space between the two, drawing natural light and ventilation deep into the home.

Inside, the plan unfolds through terraced levels that follow the site’s natural slope, creating a gentle sequence from the heritage entry to the gabled, light‑filled living spaces and out to layered outdoor zones. The result is a home grounded in its past and ready for the future.
